Move Up Night
Move Up Night will take place on the evening of Thursday, May 25. You will have a chance to meet with the teachers in your child(ren)’s grade next year, as well as the specialty teachers and special education team. During the three sessions, you will have a unique opportunity to get a preview of the school year to come. Each session will consist of a half hour presentation with a Q & A at the end, followed by a 15 minute gallery walk through the classrooms showcasing the sort of work your child(ren) will do next year. The teachers will be providing useful information about the upcoming school year and how to prepare your child throughout the summer. To complement the evening, the PTA and School Leadership Team will be hosting a Parent Leader/Volunteer Information Fair in the Cafe between 4:15-7:30pm where potential new volunteers/parent leaders can meet with members of the current PTA Executive Board, Committee Chairs and SLT to learn about opportunities to participate in the upcoming school year. Move Up Night is for parents/guardians only and babysitting will be available for MNS students currently attending K-5 at PS290 (no siblings please) at a cost of $5 per child. For more information on agenda, timing and to register, please click here or https://docs.google.com/
Final PTA Meetings
Please join us for a cumulative series of meetings to create the PTA budget for the 2017-2018 school year. The remaining meetings will be held on the following Wednesdays from 6-8pm: May 17 and May 24. Please note these meetings are more than informational — they are working meetings. The programs and initiatives for next year to be funded by the PTA will be determined at these meetings. The first and second meetings (which already occurred) covered an overview of the DOE and PTA budgets, and a review of PTA generated revenue. The May 17 meeting will cover PTA expenses and the May 24 meeting will be a culmination of the proposed budget for next yr. It is not required that one attends all meetings to participate. All parents and teachers are automatically part of the PTA, and all are welcome and strongly encouraged to attend.

Jack Myers- The Future of Men
$20 per person (includes copy of book: The Future of Men)
www.Mediavillage.com
After being told all their lives to be a man and man up, men are now rejecting the macho stereotype and instead developing empathy, getting in touch with their emotions, and becoming more sensitive in their relationships. Women are gaining ground in business, culture, education, relationships, and politics as traditional male and female roles disappear.
The Future of Men: Masculinity in the Twenty-First Century prepares men and women for this shift in gender norms. As the definition of a real man evolves, understanding the future of men in business, politics, sports, education, relationships, and parenting will be essential for men to maintain psychological well-being, strengthen their self-esteem and sexual self-confidence, and rewire their emotional lives. The Future of Men provides tools to help men, and especially younger men, recognize and embrace new behaviors that are required for health and happiness at work, at home, and in their relationships.”
